Your first recording
Once you have a transcription provider configured, you’re ready to record.
Start a recording
Section titled “Start a recording”Open Quendian. You can start recording in two ways:
- Click the Record button in the sidebar
- Press ⌘⇧R from anywhere on your Mac (global shortcut)
On first run, macOS will prompt for microphone and screen recording permissions if you haven’t granted them yet. Accept both — see Grant permissions for why each is needed.
While recording
Section titled “While recording”A red dot appears in the menu bar while recording is active. You can speak normally; Quendian captures both your microphone and system audio.
The transcript streams live in the main window as you speak. You don’t need to do anything — just talk.
Stop and review
Section titled “Stop and review”Press ⌘⇧R again, or click Stop in the sidebar or menu bar, to end the recording.
After stopping:
- The full transcript appears in the session view
- A summary generates automatically (this may take a few seconds depending on your provider)
- If you used Whisper-1 for transcription: click any word in the transcript to jump the audio playback to that moment
Export
Section titled “Export”Your session is saved locally. To export it as a Markdown file, use the context menu on the session in the sidebar, or find the export option in the session view.
Exports go to ~/Documents/Quendian/ by default. See Export to configure the folder and filename format.
